Eagles drop district final in historic run

Posted on 10/25/2025

Your Kent City Eagles Varsity Boys Soccer fell to the Fremont Packers 2-o in the district finals.

The Eagles battled hard and had surprised many with our game prep and plans. However, we struggled to find clear chances at the goal. Fremont has gone on to advance to the state semi-finals since beating KC.

Our Eagles finish the 2025 season with a record 14 wins (14-6-2). Breaking the record set in 2022 and tied in 2024.
Our Eagles GK, Jesus Pozas-Servin breaks the single-season shutout record of 11 clean sheets. Previously set at 10 in 2022 by Coach Willy Duran.
The first time in school history, the Eagles soccer program has recorded two district wins.

Thank you to our nine seniors in this 2026 class!

Earning all conference honors: David Copado-Perez, Aaron Vanderwest, Jesus Pozas-Servin, Jose Pozas-Servin, Liam Rath & Quin McLemore (H.M).

Earning all district honors: David Copado-Perez, Aaron Vanderwest, Jesus Pozas-Servin, Jose Pozas-Servin, Liam Rath, Quin McLemore, Yonatan Duran, Brandon Juarez and Kevin Espinoza (H.M.).

Congrats on an incredible season, Eagles!

Eagles Advance To District Finals & Break Records!

Posted on 10/15/2025

Your Eagles soccer team advanced to the District finals after a 1st round win over Orchard View 1-0 and a semi-final victory over Grant in OT, also 1-0.

In the semi-final match, both teams battled hard in regulation but would remain scoreless after 80 minutes. In OT, with 1min 45secs left in the first OT period, #7 David Copado-Perez crossed a ball in to find #17 Jose Pozas-Servin for a header goal to break the tie and set the Eagles up 1-0. The Eagles would lock in defensively to finish the 2nd OT period and finish ahead 1-0, earning a trip to the district finals at Fremont.

This is the first time in school history that soccer has earned two post-season victories. As well, the regular season record of 13wins (held by 2022 & 2024 teams) was broken with a 14 victory this year. Lastly, our senior GK, Jesus Pozas-Servin has broken our clean sheet (shutout) record of 10 clean sheets (Held by Eagles JV coach, Willy Duran). Jesus's clean sheet last night is his 11th of the season.

The Eagles look to continue to historic run, taking on Fremont, who is on their own historic run themselves, being undefeated at 18-0-2. The Eagles face the Packers for a district trophy @ Fremont MS. Kickoff set for 5pm.

Eagles Soccer Finishes The Week Strong

Posted on 10/05/2025

After a semi-final 2-0 loss to Big Rapids on Monday. A match where our Eagles struggled to get much going offensively. The squad set their eyes on two remaining matches for the week. A 3rd round de-facto 3rd/4th place match vs Tri County and a regular season finale non-conference match vs Ottawa Hills.

On Wednesday, the Eagles knew they needed to be prepared to battle as Tri-County always has a lot of grit and energy that can be very dangerous. It was this very grit that had the Eagles down 2-0 at the halftime break. In the 2nd half, the Eagles wanted to pick up their energy and attack the ball more aggressively than the first half. This was displayed in less than 30 seconds in the 2nd half when the Eagles would find the back of the net off a David Perez pass that found Brandon Juarez on the wing for a breakaway goal (1-2 TC). It was not until 10 minutes later the Eagles would once again find the net. This time, from a throw-in by Yonatan Duran to Liam Rath. Liam would show some footwork to get past some Vikings and send a 25-yard laser of a shot into the back of the net (2-2). The Vikings would answer back to take a 3-2 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of the match. In the final minutes of the 2nd half, the Eagles would once again tie things up off a corner kick that would bounce around in front of the net before Jose Pozas would find Sebesatian Barrera for a tap-in goal. Setting the match 3-3 and sending us to overtime.
In OT, we'd play two 10-minute halves no matter the score. At the conclusion of the first 10, the match remained deadlocked at 3. In the second, the Eagles were attacking aggressively while Coach Sanchez was preparing for a penalty kicks line-up. The Eagles would earn a throw-in deep in the Viking half with 30 seconds left, Aaron Vanderwest would step up for the throw and send it towards the goal. Freshman, Liam Rath would find the ball and send it into the net with 3.5 SECONDS LEFT! Eagles would win in OT 4-3.

On Friday, the Eagles would welcome the Ottawa Hills Bengals for a regular-season finale match and a non-conference match. As well, this would be our celebrated senior night for our 9 seniors. A more formal senior night post will follow later.
The matchup would raise a lot of eyebrows because, despite only 1 win, the Bengals are in a brutal OK-White conference and had just tied Grand Rapids Catholic Central at 1 apiece days before. The Eagles knew of the challenge and prepared for a battle.
Friday was a good display of possession and bend but don't break defense, with both teams fighting for a clean shot on goal. Most of the match was played scoreless until the Eagles earned a corner kick with 15mins remaining in the match. David Perez would step up for the kick and find once again another freshman, Jaden Sanchez who would head the ball deep into the Bengal goal for a 1-0 Eagle lead. The stout Eagles defense and GK Jesus Pozas would secure the shutout victory for the Eagles.

The Eagles now sit 12-5-2 on the season and prepare to host the opening round of districts on Wednesday 10/8 vs Mus. Orchard View. Kickoff 6pm.

Boys Soccer Earns CSAA-Blue Title

Posted on 09/21/2025

On Wednesday (Sept. 17th) your Eagles played host to the Lakeview Wildcats. Following a tie the previous Monday to the Big Rapids Cardinals, the Eagles needed to win to lock in a sole CSAA title for 2025.

The Eagles knew they needed to come out and set the tone early. Not allowing Lakeview to find any rhythm in the match. It would be a TEAM effort for the Eagles, including some of our younger team members.

The score would be 2-0 at the halftime break and finish 5-0 at the end of the 80min match.

Scoring for the Eagles: #21 Quinton McLemore,#11 Liam Rath, #17 Jose Pozas-Servin, #19 Aaron Vanderwest & #13 Carlos Diaz.
Assists by: #11 Liam Rath, #17 Jose Pozas-Servin, #19 Aaron Vanderwest & #33 Jaden Sanchez

The Eagles finish 4-0-2 in regular-season CSAA play. Securing the #1 seed for the conference tournament starting on Sept. 24th.

Congrats to our seniors who have secured 3 CSAA titles in their 4 years. Including our first-ever undefeated conference record.

Varsity Soccer Draws But Remains In CSAA Race

Posted on 09/16/2025

After a 3-0 win at TC last Wednesday and a 0-5 loss at Lowell the following day. The Eagles returned home on Monday vs a showdown with Big Rapids. A win for KC would likely secure a 2nd consecutive CSAA-Blue title.

The Cardinals play an extremely tough schedule, and their record was not an area of focus as their squad typically features speed and physicality that has always caused fits for the Eagles. This matchup would be no different. From the opening whistle, the Eagles struggled to settle the ball and adjust to the speed of the Cardinals. This sustained most of the first half, resulting in both teams struggling for possession. No team was able to create any true shooting opportunities.

In the 2nd half, the Eagles would settle down and be able to move the ball better. Despite the better possession in the 2nd half the Cardinals defense would hold strong and prevent any clear shots from the Eagles. The best opportunity on frame came in the final minutes when a Cardinal defender made a spot on the goal line to prevent the Eagles goal. The final score would remain deadlocked at 0's.
Another shutout to the leadership from our GK and defensive line (Jesus Pozas-Servin, Aaron Vanderwest, Kevin Espinoza, Yonatan Duran and Valente Perez). They played a well-rounded match and kept BR's quick attack at bay for the match.

The Eagles are now 8-3-2 and 3-0-2 CSAA.

The Eagles are back home on Wednesday vs Lakeview at 6pm. A win would lock up a lone CSAA Championship & #1 seed for the CSAA tournament.

Varsity Soccer Drops Game On The Road

Posted on 09/09/2025

The hot streak would come to an end on Monday as the Eagles traveled to Shelby for a non-conference road match-up.

The Eagles JV and Varsity were in action on Monday at Shelby's beautiful new community park. From the opening whistle, the Eagles would struggle to match the Tigers intensity and pace of play. Typically, the Eagles are the squad on the front foot, but roles would be reversed on Monday, and the Tigers would not let up.

Despite a stout performance by our Eagles defense and GK, Jesus Pozas-Servin. The Eagles would fall by a PK in the 2nd half for a 1-0 loss to the Tigers.

Kent City is back in action on Wednesday as we travel to Tri County for a battle of 1st & 2nd place in the CSAA-Blue. Kickoff at 5:30pm.

Soccer Finishes With Two Wins On The Week

Posted on 08/29/2025

Your Varsity Soccer Eagles had to make a quick return after a weekend Eagle Cup where the Eagles took 2nd place. After sustaining some key injuries during the tournament, the Eagles would need to make adjustments quickly for Algoma Christian (Mon. 8/25) and Reed City (Wed. 8/27).

On Monday, the Eagles welcomed our neighbors down 17mile for a match up. Algoma has not been a member of the MHSAA since our own Coach Sanchez was leading the Knights squad back in 2018. Now an independent school in the Great Lakes 6 conference, there were a lot of unknowns heading into the match.
The Eagles would maintain control for most of the opening half but would not result in many shot attempts on the Knight GK. The first goal of the evening came 30mins into the 1st half when #7 David Perez would net a penalty kick. Making it 1-0 Eagles. He would not be done just yet, 5mins later it would be #7 Perez again this time with a steal of a Knight goal kick that would be sent back into the Knight net. 2-0 Eagles at the half break.
In the 2nd half, the sore/tired legs from the weekend tournament had set in and the Eagles lost a bit of their momentum but did not give up a shot to the Knights. However, the Eagles would not be done scoring. The final goal of the evening would come from #11 Laim Rath on a breakaway from #7 Perez's pass for a 3-0 Eagle lead and final score.

Wednesday evening the Eagles welcomed the Reed City Coyotes to town for our 2nd match in CSAA play.
The Eagles, now a bit more rested, looked to improve their attack and speed of play against the Coyotes. And improve they did!
The Eagles would be on the front foot the entire match and not let up at all. The Eagles would win 8-0 by mercy rule.
#19 Aaron Vanderwest led Kent City with three goals. #7 David Perez and #11 Liam Rath each added two. #21 Quinton McLemore scored one goal. #7 Perez and #11 Rath each had two assists.

The Eagles are now 5-1-1, (1-0-1 in CSAA Blue).

Kent City travels to Grant for a 6 p.m. match on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd. JV match at 4:30.

Varsity Soccer Wins Home Opener

Posted on 08/19/2025

The Varsity Boys Soccer squad earned a big win over a familiar OK Silver foe, Wyoming Lee.
Both squads are coming off good 2024 seasons and were 1-0 to start the year.

It did not take long for the first goal of the match as the Legends struck first off a defensive miscue by the Eagles. Setting the match 1-0. Not long after our #10, Marcus Arechiga would draw a foul and would hit his free kick off the goal post to beat the Lee GK. Setting the match even at 1.
The match would remain 1-1 at the half break.

In the second, the Eagles would find more rhythm and start to move the ball well. This would result in the Eagles catching Lee off balance and #7, David Copado-Perez would be able to sneak a shot past the defense and Lee GK. The score would be 2-1 Eagles.

Lee would take a red card and finish the half with 10 players. This allowed Kent City to continue to move the ball and attack the goal. However, the final score would remain 2-1. The Eagles are now 2-0 on the season and will head to Newaygo on Wednesday. Kickoff at 5pm.

Varsity Soccer Opens The Season On The Road

Updated on 08/16/2025

Kent City Varsity Soccer opened up the 2025 with a road victory against Hopkins on Friday evening (8/15). Opening up the season with a 3-1 victory.

It would be a slow start for the Eagles but they would draw first blood off of a throw-in that bounced around in front of the Hopkins goal before #7, David Copado-Perez would tap it in for the 1-0 lead. Hopkins would answer back before halftime off of an Eagle error to set the match 1-1 at the break.

In the 2nd half, the Eagles were not going to let the Vikings gain any momentum and move the ball better. They did just that for the whole half, dominating possession and frustrating our opponent. We had many shots on goal but could not find the net until mid-way through the half when #3, Giancarlo Coronado would beat a pair of Hopkins defenders on the wing and send a rocket into the bottom corner of the net. Setting the match 2-1 Eagles.

We were not finished there, with 10mins left in the match, off an Eagle throw in #19 Aaron Vanderwest would find #17, Jose Pozas-Servin in the box for a header goal and the nail on the coffin for a 3-1 final, in favor of your Eagles.

The Eagles return home on Monday, 8/18 for our home opener against Wyoming Lee. Kickoff set for 6pm. JV boys play at 4:30.
