Welcome to the most intense, exciting, and high-stakes stretch of the spring. It is officially Championship Week.
In the world of high school athletics, this is the moment our student-athletes train for from the first day of the off-season. The directive is simple but demanding: win or go home. There are no second chances, no "we’ll get them next time," and no room for complacency. Whether it’s on the diamond or the track, our Eagles need to be locked in, prepared, and ready to outwork the competition.
While our athletes compete between the lines, "HUGE" events like these don't happen without the incredible support of the Kent City community. This week alone, we are hosting the MHSAA District Finals in girls soccer, MHSAA Districts in baseball, and the MHSAA Track and Field State Finals.
It is our volunteers, our families, and our coaches who make it a success. For those keeping track at home, Kent City will have hosted 12 MHSAA events in 2025-26. This is exactly why the MHSAA looks to Kent City year after year.
So let’s go to work, Eagle Nation! This is our opportunity to put the Kent City brand on display once again. Our strong work ethic, our commitment to kindness, and our pride in our school are all valuable lessons for our children who will carry the torch into the future. It also doesn’t hurt to compete for championships on your home turf! Let’s show the state why Kent City is the gold standard for hosting championship-caliber events.

Key Contests
Varsity Baseball @ MHSAA Districts
Friday, May 29 | 12:00 p.m. | Kent City High School
The varsity baseball team will host the MHSAA Districts at Kent City on Friday, May 29, beginning at 12:00 p.m. in a District Semi-Final game vs. Lakeview. Kent City just swept the Wildcats (9-1 and 6-2) on Tuesday this past week. With a win, Kent City will advance to the District Finals to face off with one three familiar foes: Morley Stanwood, Newaygo, or White Cloud. Morley Stanwood and Newaygo will play on Tuesday, May 26 at Newaygo to earn a spot in the second semi-final against White Cloud. The Lions are the favorite to advance, most likely in both games. However, it is the postseason and with pitching limitations there is a boat load of strategy involved when it comes to deciding who will pitch and for how long. This will be especially true for Newaygo and Morley Stanwood. Kent City is 6-2 this season against teams in the District, sweeping Morley Stanwood and Lakeview, and splitting with both Newaygo and White Cloud (Kent City won the first game in both of these matchups). Since this is an MHSAA postseason event, we WILL be charging admission – ALL tickets must be purchased via GoFan. Varsity Track and Field @ MHSAA State Finals
Saturday, May 30 | 9:30 a.m. | Kent City High School
Our fifth year in a row hosting the biggest event in track and field in Michigan, and this year is looking to be a great one! The population in town will more than double and online maps will show the traffic jams that occur once a year as the thousands of people ascend on Ward Memorial Field to watch the MHSAA D3 State Finals. Kent City will be represented throughout the day by nine different student-athletes (7 boys and 2 girls) who qualified to compete for All-State status in seven different events. For the girls, two Regional champions will be in action, Eliana Max in the 1600 m and 3200 m and Addison Korcal in the shot put. For the boys, two relay teams, the 4x200 m relay (Victor Vazquez, Ayden DeVoogd, Kolton Fox-Wellman, and Jonah) Hawthorne), and the 4x400 m relay (Victor Vaquez, Jonah Hawthorne, Logan Thompson, and Kale Freeland), along with Jonah Hawthorne in the 400m and Julio Sanchez-Avila in the shot put will be eyeing a top 8 finish and spot on the podium. Please help us spread the word: Peach Ridge Avenue at 18 Mile heading south will be CLOSED on Saturday morning through early afternoon, to accommodate the massive parking effort. Also, all tickets must be purchased through GoFan (parking can be purchased there too), plan ahead and purchase your tickets ahead of time to help make it more efficient, here is a link: MHSAA State Track and Field Finals @ Kent City

Saturday, May 30, 2026 | 11:30 a.m. | Newaygo Middle School
The Eagles will take the show on the road on Saturday for the MHSAA Districts at Newaygo Middle School. Kent City will follow the White Cloud vs. Ravenna game (9:30 a.m) at approximately 11:30 a.m. However, it is likely that game one will not go the complete seven innings, meaning Kent City vs. Newaygo will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of that contest. Translation – plan on arriving early. The Eagles have already played and swept Newaygo in a doubleheader this season, beating the Lions (13-3 and 11-6). If Kent City can take care of business in game one, they will face our western neighbors in the District Finals for the second consecutive season. Last season, Kent City hosted the MHSAA Districts and defeated North Muskegon (3-0) before losing to the eventual state semifinalist Bulldogs, 10-0 in five innings. There is no doubt our neighbors to the west are good, they enter the week with a 31-1 record. That lone loss came to none other than conference arch-nemesis Morley Stanwood (13-8) in mid May. A sign that they are not invincible and if anyone in this District is going to send them home, it would be the Eagles. Since it is an MHSAA postseason event, all tickets must be purchased via GoFan: MHSAA Softball Districts @ Newaygo
