Athletic Weekly 4-27 – 5-2
We head into the final month of the 2025-26 athletic calendar this week and Kent City will be striving to put the finishing touches on what has been another outstanding year. As the conference action heats up, Kent City has three teams still unbeaten in the CSAA White: baseball, boys track and field, and girls track and field.
With the margin for error shrinking and the pressure of postseason seeding looming, every inning and every event now carries championship weight. Our student-athletes have put in the work since August; now, it’s about finding that extra gear to finish the year in style!
Week in Review
Varsity Baseball: The varsity baseball team defeated Morley Stanwood in their first CSAA White games of the season, 17-4 and 12-2. Then on Thursday, Kent City dropped two non-league, cross-over games to Grant, 5-1 and 10-0. Kent City is 3-7 overall and 3-0 in the CSAA White.
Varsity Boys Golf: The varsity boys golf team played in their first CSAA Blue Jamboree of the season on Wednesday, finishing in 6th place out of nine schools. Leading the team were freshman Ethan Stuhan (101) and sophomore Lincoln Thom (102). Then on Thursday at the St. Ives Matchplay, Kent City had two golfers earn medals: Bryer Armstrong and Ethan Stuhan.
Varsity Girls Soccer: The varsity girls soccer team had a rough week, failing to score a goal in three outings. On Monday, Kent City lost to Grant 4-0 at Ward Memorial. Then on Wednesday and Friday, Kent City lost by mercy to Big Rapids and Shelby respectively. The Eagles are now 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the CSAA Blue.
Varsity Softball: The varsity softball team lost to Morley Stanwood on Tuesday in both games, 12-3 and 11-6. The Eagles rebounded on Thursday at Grant, defeating the Tigers 12-0 and 6-5. Kent City is 9-3 overall and 0-2 in the CSAA White.
Varsity Boys Track and Field: The varsity boys track and field team won their first CSAA White dual of season defeating White Cloud 130-6. Then on Friday at the Kent City Elite Invitational, the Eagles brought home medals in six events: Kale Freeland – 4th (Long Jump), Julio Sanchez – 4th (Shot Put), Peyton Powell – 5th (110 m Hurdles) and 6th (300 m Hurdles), 4x200 m relay – 3rd (V. Vazquez, Fox-Wellman, DeVoogd, and Meade), and 4x400 m relay – 5th (Thompson, Freeland, V. Vazquez, and Hawthorne).
Varsity Girls Track and Field: The varsity girls track and field team defeated White Cloud on Tuesday, 79-58. On Friday, Kent City brought home medals in five different events: Elliana Max – 2nd (3200 m), Brooklin Armstrong – 5th (100 m Hurdles), Shelby Zimmer – 2nd (Long Jump), Addison Korcal – 3rd (Shot Put) and 7th (Discus), and Zoe Cato 6th (Shot Put).

Varsity Track and Field vs. Morley Stanwood

The Eagles host the Mohawks this Monday in a pivotal CSAA White showdown. For both the boys and girls squads, this dual is a "must-win" to stay on track for another conference championship.
Kent City holds a significant advantage in depth and roster size. Recent results highlight this gap; Morley Stanwood struggled in their dual against Central Montcalm, falling 99.5–33.5 (Boys) and 102–34 (Girls). The Mohawks' primary challenge is a lack of participants, often leaving valuable points on the track by failing to field one or more of the four relay teams. Expect the Eagles to utilize their full roster to capitalize on these openings and secure the conference victory.
Varsity Baseball @ Newaygo (DH)

Kent City travels to Newaygo on Thursday for a non-league doubleheader that serves as a high-stakes postseason preview. With Kent City set to host the MHSAA Districts in late May, this matchup offers a first look at a potential bracket rival.
The Lions (7-5) currently look like the team to beat in a District field that includes Lakeview, Morley Stanwood, and White Cloud. Newaygo’s resume is highlighted by an impressive sweep of Central Montcalm (5-0 and 12-2). While the Eagles (3-7) will learn their official postseason path during Tuesday's District draw, Thursday’s games are a prime opportunity to measure themselves against top-tier competition before the trophy is on the line.
5th Annual Girls Varsity Soccer Eagle Cup
Saturday, May 2 | 9:00 a.m. | Ward Memorial Field
The Eagles welcome Ottawa Hills and Muskegon Oakridge to Ward Memorial Field this Saturday for the 5th Annual Eagle Cup. While Kent City’s 2-6 record doesn't quite reflect how competitive they’ve been in every match, Saturday offers a chance to turn that momentum into hardware against two evenly-matched opponents.
Match 1: vs. Ottawa Hills (9:00 a.m.) The Bengals (2-10) come in with a win over Godwin Heights and a forfeit victory against Kelloggsville.
Match 2: vs. Muskegon Oakridge The Oakridge Eagles (2-9-1) bring a similar profile, featuring wins over Grant and Orchard View—two teams Kent City has already battled this season.
With three teams hungry to jumpstart the second half of their season, the Eagle Cup promises a full day of parity and competitive soccer.
