Athletic Weekly 4-13 - 4-18
It is that time of year again . . . blink and you will miss it. I hope everyone had a great spring break and is ready for the next month or so, that will be non-stop, spring sports action. Starting this week, the Eagles will be competing on a regular basis on nearly every night of the week, plus some Saturdays. All of our teams will be in action this week and all of them will wrap up their regular season, if not their entire season prior to graduation on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Most springs are a juggling act, trying to navigate weather, field conditions, and all of the other school activities that surround the end of the school year. Stay tuned as the Eagles look to end 2025-26 in style!

Varsity Girls Soccer vs. Grand River Prep
Tuesday, April 14 | 6:00 p.m. | Ward Memorial Field
The varsity soccer team will be at home on Tuesday for a non-conference match-up with Grand River Prep. Kent City is looking to gain some momentum this season with a very young, and relatively inexperienced squad. In fact 15 of Kent City’s 23 players are in the 9th and 10th grades four of the eight juniors and seniors are in their first year on the team. Grand River Prep has yet to play a game in 2026, Tuesday will be their season opener. Judging by last year’s results, Grand River Prep is also trying to get some traction in their girls soccer program finishing the 2025 season 1-10. Their lone win last season came against Wyoming Lee (1-0), it was one of two goals by the Titans throughout the 2025 campaign. Kent City only secured one win in 2025 as well, but were a bit more competitive than Grand River Prep. A win on Tuesday would double the Eagles’ win total in only their 4th game of the season!
Varsity Boys Golf @ Kent City Eagle Classic
Saturday, April 18 | 9:00 a.m. | The Falls of Barber Creek
Kent City’s varsity golf team will start their season with two events this week, including Saturday’s 8th Annual Kent City Eagle Invitational. Eighteen schools will be at the Falls, including a majority of the field from the 2025 tournament. Kent City will be in the White Division again this year with eight other schools that range in size from 435 students to 52 students. Last year’s champion, Calvin Christian will be back along with the 2nd place (Covenant Christian), and third place (Northern Michigan Christian) finishers who also hailed from the White Division. The Eagles finished in 15th place out of 16 teams at last year’s tournament. Only two golfers return for Kent City, Bryer Armstrong (118) and Bryce Chappell (123) the rest of the Eagles’ lineup will be new in 2026.
Varsity Baseball & Softball vs. Fremont/Shelby
Saturday, April 18 | 10:00 a.m. | Kent City High School
The varsity baseball and softball teams will play host to a non-league round robin on Saturday against Fremont and Shelby. Kent City will be in action in both the first game of the day and then the third game. Last year, the Eagles were 0-3 against this year's teams during the regular season in baseball, losing to Shelby 2-1 and 12-1 and Fremont 3-1 late in the season. Fremont enters the week with a 2-2 record whereas Shelby is 6-0 on the season. For softball, the field is a little more forgiving. Fremont is 0-2 so far this season and did not play Kent City last year, while Shelby is 2-0 and split with Kent City in 2025: 6-3 and 2-12. Temperatures for the week look good, however, there is rain forecasted quite frequently, including on Saturday.
