One day of wrestling is in the books at Ford Field in Detroit, and Kent City has four wrestlers who will be in action again today, after advancing past the “blood rounds” on Friday evening. Wrestling will begin at 9:00 a.m. this morning and will determine final place as only eight wrestlers remain in each bracket.
Dylan Russo – 106 lb Weight Class:
Dylan got off to a great start in his first appearance at Ford Field, winning his opening match by technical fall, 15-0. In the quarterfinals Dylan gave up a takedown and escape falling behind 4-0, before getting a late escape to make the final 4-1. In his blood round, Dylan wasted little time, pinning his opponent to advance to Saturday. On Saturday, Dylan will open the day with a tough opponent from Birch Run to stay in the hunt to wrestle for 3rd and 4th place.
Sam Kik – 113 lb Weight Class:
Sam was successful in his quest to repeat as an All-State wrestler in Michigan. After placing 5th a year ago in D1, Sam stacked up two wins right out of the gate to ensure another All-State finish in 2025-26. In match one, Same scored a 15-10 decision to advance to round two where defeated his opponent from powerhouse Dundee 6-3 by scoring two takedowns. In the Semifinals, Sam lost 10-5, ending his day. On Saturday,, Sam will await the winner of a bout between Yale and Ogemaw Heights. With a win, Sam will advance to the 3rd and 4th place match.
Brooklin Armstrong – 120 lb Weight Class:
Brooklin started her All-State campaign with a pin in the first round. In round 2, Brooklin lost to her opponent from Oxford, by pin in the first period. She then won in the blood rounds by major decision (14-6) over an opponent from Okemos. To start her day this morning, Brooklin will wrestle an opponent from Leslie, who has taken the same route to this point in the tournament. Brooklin will need a win to match or exceed her 4th place finish from a year ago.
Sammy Anderson – 126 lb Weight Class:
Sammy got off to a bit of a slow start on Friday, losing his first round match 14-8. His experience at the Finals kicked in after the opening round, and Sammy won two consecutive matches, his first by major decision, 17-8; and a second by decision in a hotly contested match that Sammy pulled out 8-6. A guaranteed second All-State Finish on Saturday, Sammy will wrestle an opponent from Grass Lake, who like Sammy, lost his first match but won his next two to advance to this point. Sammy needs a win to stay in contention for 3rd and 4th place.
Logan Thompson – 165 lb Weight Class
In his first appearance at the State Finals, Logan battled against some tough opponents, but came up short in his first two matches. In the opening round, Logan lost by technical fall 17-2, and then in the second round a 6-1 decision ended Logan’s day. Logan finishes his senior campaign wrestling at the State Finals, a testament to his toughness and persistence.
