Kent City Athletic Weekly 3-2 -- 3-7
Athletic Weekly 3-2 – 3-7 We continue our journey down the tournament road with another busy and exciting week ahead for Kent City Athletics.Last week was one for the history books. Two of our teams competed at the MHSAA Team Bowling State Finals, and our boys basketball program captured its first District championship since 2006 — a milestone moment for our school community.Think about that for a second.Where were our current student-athletes the last time the Eagles sent two bowling teams to the State Finals? In middle school. How about the last time Kent City won a boys basketball District title? They weren’t even born yet. This group of Eagles is doing more than winning games — they are establishing a blueprint for the future. They are building a winning culture rooted in unselfishness, work ethic, and belief in one another. Success like this does not happen by accident; it is earned through countless hours of preparation and a commitment to something bigger than yourself

Athletic Weekly 2-23 - 2-28 It’s not often we get to say we’re heading off to watch our teams compete in the MHSAA State Finals — but this is one of those special weeks. Kent City will have not one, but two teams bowling for a state championship. On Friday, our varsity girls and boys bowling teams will travel to Jackson to compete at JAX 60 against 15 other Division 3 schools from across Michigan. The Eagles earned their spots last week with impressive Regional Runner-up finishes at Sherman Lanes, finishing ahead of 12 other boys teams and 10 other girls teams from West Michigan to punch their tickets to the Finals. When was the last time Kent City had two teams competing at the State Finals on the same day? 2022 — when both the boys and girls bowling teams made the trip.Moments like this deserve to be celebrated. The winter season isn’t over, and there are still opportunities ahead, but having two teams competing on the state’s biggest stage in the same weekend is a rare accomplish

Athletic Weekly 2-16 - 2-21 The gravity of the upcoming week is not lost on the Eagles. Trophies hang in the balance. Berths in the State Finals are within reach. And a win over our conference arch-nemesis is always a highlight. On top of that, we will celebrate Senior Night for both our girls and boys basketball teams on Monday against Lakeview, and we have a pivotal crossover matchup with Big Rapids still ahead. And yes — Kent City is hosting all of it.Success this week will hinge largely on our mental preparation. Can we stay focused when something doesn’t go our way — a missed shot, a tough call, a rogue pin? Those moments will happen. The key is how we respond. That responsibility belongs to all of us.Whether we are on the mat, on the lanes, on the court, on the bench, or in the stands, we each have a role to play. Keep it positive. Don’t dwell on the past. Trust the preparation. Stick to the game plan.If we do that, the hardware may very well take care of itself. There are as

Athletic Weekly 2-9 – 2-14As we head into mid-winter break, Kent City athletics is entering one of the busiest and most exciting stretches of the winter season. This week sets the tone, as our wrestling program hosts MHSAA Team Wrestling Districts on Wednesday right here at Kent City. The postseason atmosphere officially begins! What makes this run even more special is that it doesn’t stop with wrestling. Each week moving forward, another Kent City winter sport will step onto the MHSAA postseason stage—bowling next week (at Sherman Lanes), boys basketball in two weeks, and girls basketball in three weeks. Even better, Kent City will serve as the host site for all of these postseason events. If our wrestling team advances out of Team Districts on Wednesday—as expected—we will also host Team Wrestling Regionals next week.We encourage our community to come out and support our student-athletes as they compete for championships on their home floor and lanes. Athletic Weekly 2-2 – 2-7It was an outstanding week for Kent City athletics, highlighted by two CSAA Blue conference championships and strong momentum heading into a busy stretch of competition. On Wednesday, our varsity wrestling team clinched the CSAA Blue title in convincing fashion, finishing the dual season undefeated and earning the program’s first league championship since 2021–22. Adding to the celebration, our varsity girls bowling team also captured the CSAA Blue championship on Saturday, securing the title with two hard-fought dual victories over Reed City and Lakeview. As our winter sports continue to shine, we are reminded of the importance of the positive, respectful, and supportive culture that defines Kent City athletics. Athletic Weekly 1-26 - 1-31This week’s focus is on two teams with a chance to clinch a conference championship: varsity girls bowling and varsity wrestling. While all of our winter teams remain in the hunt for a league title, these two have been perfect to this point. When the match has been on the line, they’ve made the plays and hit the shots needed to secure victories. The challenges ahead will not be easy (more on that below), but both teams are just steps away from the summit. Make it a point this week to wish these bowlers and wrestlers good luck and to come out and support them on their quest for a conference title. Wrestling will be in the Nest on Wednesday, and the bowlers will take the lanes at Remus Lanes on Saturday. As for our other winter teams that have taken a conference loss or two, nothing has been decided yet. Keep battling one game at a time—and who knows, we may even get a little help from our friends along the way.Week in ReviewVarsity Boys Basketball: The varsity b

From a rare non-league bowling tournament featuring top-level competition, to key CSAA matchups on the mat, and tightly contested games on the hardwood, this week tested the Eagles’ depth, focus, and resilience. With postseason play inching closer, every match and frame continues to carry added importance as Kent City looks to build momentum against quality opponents. As winter weather remains a factor, families are reminded of the process for snow days. Forecasts are monitored throughout the day—especially afternoon and evening conditions—and communication takes place with opposing schools before final decisions are made. These decisions are not taken lightly. If it appears conditions will improve as the day progresses, high school contests may still be played and facilities opened for practices.
