This coming week is undeniably bittersweet for our senior student-athletes. There is no question that the excitement is building as they officially wrap up their final classes at Kent City High School in anticipation of next week’s graduation ceremony. However, this milestone also serves as a poignant signal: their time wearing a Kent City jersey is quickly coming to a close. To the student-athletes who have dedicated themselves over the past four years and beyond to Kent City Athletics: THANK YOU. It has been an absolute privilege watching you grow, compete, and lead. You have left an indelible mark on our athletic programs, and your presence in our stands, on our fields, and in our gymnasiums will be deeply missed. Our greatest hope is that Kent City Athletics has served as a training ground for life. Kent City Athletic Weekly 5-4 -- 5-9
We are officially in our last month of the season now and we are in the thick of our planning for that final week of May. In case you are new to Kent City, the week after Memorial Day is the busiest week in our community each year, ESPECIALLY on the following Saturday when two times the population of our community ascends on Ward Memorial Field for the MHSAA State Track and Field Finals. This year will be no different and I ask everyone in our community to save the date: Saturday May 30, or better yet the week as we are hosting two other big events leading up to the Finals this year. On Thursday, May 28, Kent City will host the MHSAA District Finals in Girls Soccer at 6:00 p.m. This will be our first go around with a District Final in girls soccer. Then on Friday, May 29, not only will teams start to roll in to inspect our track facilities in the afternoon, but we will be hosting the MHSAA Baseball District Semi Finals and Finals beginning at 12:0

As the conference action heats up, Kent City has three teams still unbeaten in the CSAA White: baseball, boys track and field, and girls track and field. With the margin for error shrinking and the pressure of postseason seeding looming, every inning and every event now carries championship weight. Our student-athletes have put in the work since August; now, it’s about finding that extra gear to finish the year in style! Week in ReviewVarsity Baseball: The varsity baseball team defeated Morley Stanwood in their first CSAA White games of the season, 17-4 and 12-2. Then on Thursday, Kent City dropped two non-league, cross-over games to Grant, 5-1 and 10-0. Kent City is 3-7 overall and 3-0 in the CSAA White. Varsity Boys Golf: The varsity boys golf team play

Athletic Weekly 4-20 - 4-25 They say "April showers bring May flowers," and if that holds true, West Michigan is in for a spectacular bloom this year! While the rain has been relentless, the forecast finally shows a dry stretch ahead. This is a welcome relief for our spring teams, who are eager to trade the gym floor for the dirt and grass. Our baseball and softball programs have been incredibly creative in finding outdoor practice space, but as any athlete knows, there is no substitute for the real thing. We want to extend a sincere thank you to our parents, fans, and student-athletes for your patience as we navigate these scheduling hurdles. We also owe a debt of gratitude to our grounds crew and staff, who are working tirelessly alongside Mother Nature to ensure our facilities are game-ready. Let’s get outside and play!Week in ReviewVarsity Baseball: The varsity baseball ran into a tough Big Rapids squad on Tuesday, dropping both games to the Cardinals, 9-4 and 9-0. Kent Ci

Athletic Weekly 3-23 – 3-28 Spring officially arrives Friday at 10:46 a.m.—what a relief! That said, the weather roller coaster is far from over. The first days, weeks…sometimes even months of spring can make spring sports unpredictable. Please keep a close eye on our online schedules, as we will do our best to keep them updated while managing several variables, including weather, field conditions, and participation at other schools.I’m happy to report that participation numbers at the high school level are strong here at Kent City. Our student-athletes have been practicing consistently for nearly two weeks, and as an athletic department, we’ve been emphasizing one key theme: commitment. With the nature of spring sports—and the end of the school year quickly approaching—it can be easy to lose focus. Not this year. We are committed to excellence and building on the success our teams have achieved throughout the fall and winter seasons.Since this is a pre-spring break edition of the W

Athletic Weekly 3-9 – 3-14 Our spring sports season begins this week, but we still have one winter team competing as our varsity girls basketball team advances to the Regional round for the 13th time in the past 16 seasons. That level of consistency does not happen by accident—it reflects the commitment to excellence shown by hundreds of Kent City student-athletes over the years. This week also brought the passing of legendary college football coach Lou Holtz, a man known not only for winning championships but for constantly reminding athletes that success begins with commitment, discipline, and doing the little things the right way. Lou Holtz, who led Notre Dame to a national championship in 1988, spent much of his career teaching that greatness is built on daily habits and high expectations. That same commitment is what we hope to see from all of our students and student-athletes—not just in athletics, but in every area of their lives. His final match of the season looked much different, however, as Dylan scored two takedowns on his way to a 6–0 victory and a 7th-place finish. In the quarterfinals Dylan gave up a takedown and escape falling behind 4-0, before getting a late escape to make the final 4-1. In his blood round, Dylan wasted little time, pinning his opponent to advance to Saturday. On Saturday, Dylan will open the day with a tough opponent from Birch Run to stay in the hunt to wrestle for 3rd and 4th place. Athletic Weekly 3-2 – 3-7 We continue our journey down the tournament road with another busy and exciting week ahead for Kent City Athletics.Last week was one for the history books. Two of our teams competed at the MHSAA Team Bowling State Finals, and our boys basketball program captured its first District championship since 2006 — a milestone moment for our school community.Think about that for a second.Where were our current student-athletes the last time the Eagles sent two bowling teams to the State Finals? In middle school. How about the last time Kent City won a boys basketball District title? They weren’t even born yet. This group of Eagles is doing more than winning games — they are establishing a blueprint for the future. They are building a winning culture rooted in unselfishness, work ethic, and belief in one another. Success like this does not happen by accident; it is earned through countless hours of preparation and a commitment to something bigger than yourself
